| Introductory Courses American Jiu Jitsu Introductory Course: 4 - Week Course for Adults Unlimited Beginner classes - Start date is Open-Ended Ever want to learn a martial art but never had time before? Want to feel that you can defend yourself if approached in an adverse situation? Want to do something for yourself? Would you know what to do if someone you love was being hurt? Unlike so many problems in the world, this is one that you can actually do something about. You WILL learn to defend yourself. You WILL feel more confident. You WILL learn to face down an attacker. In this course you will learn the important underlying principles and techniques of American Jiu Jitsu self-defense, including defense and retaliations against punches, and escapes from grabs. You will learn how to effectively use your entire body to defend yourself from a much larger, stronger and more aggressive attacker. Best of all, though, is that when you're in class, you will leave all of your worries behind. And, in turn, after an hour of training you will leave the mat feeling much more relaxed and less stressed. We make sure each class is SAFE and FUN, so that you fully enjoy your time on the mat. We have a relaxed, non-militaristic attitude towards training, and our instructors ensure that everyone learns in a fun and safe environment. We also welcome any self defense questions you may have and will gladly show you how to defend yourself effectively from ANY situation you pose. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals (4-week Course): Monday 6:30pm, Wednesday 7:30pm, and Fridays 8:30pm (Begins Monday, August 3rd) Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling centered martial art. It's aim is to gain a dominant position over your opponent and cause them to submit through the use of joint locks and chokeholds. A core principle of BJJ is that a smaller and weaker person can easily defend themselves against a larger stronger opponent through the use of leverage and technique. In this course you will systematically learn the fundamentals of BJJ. Each day will concentrate on a specific position, both offensive and defensive. We will cover both defending and attacking from the back, the mount, side control, half guard, and guard. You will also learn to comfortably roll and fall. By the end of the course you will have a strong foundation in the principles of ground fighting. This is the perfect opportunity for you to learn how to defend yourself on the ground, become more confident in your grappling skills by learning to fight systematically, or begin your serious study of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
