Muay Thai

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand. This martial art utilizes kicks, punches, knees and elbows as well as the clinch. A typical Muay Thai match takes place in a ring using gloves similar to those used in Western boxing. Often referred to as "The Art of Eight Limbs", Muay Thai practitioners learn to utilize eight points of contact, hands, shins, elbows, and knees, rather than two points like Western Boxing. As our newest program addition, we are excited to offer this rich style to those who would like to become more well rounded mixed martial artists or for those who would like to explore the art in its pure form.

Wai Moy - Muay Thai Instructor

Andrew Rivera

Wai Moy started his martial arts career at age 13.  Inspired by shows like the Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he briefly studied Tae Kwon Do at a local YMCA, but soon quit because it was nothing like the action he saw on television.  On a friend’s recommendation, he tried San Shou instead, and fell in love with fighting right away.  Within the next three years, Wai went on to compete and place in several international level events, including the 2005 Pan American Tournament, where he placed third under the guidance of Kam Fai Chan.  When Chan moved back to Venezuela, Wai took a two year hiatus from fighting until he discovered Muay Thai.  Since his return to the ring, Wai has won several titles, including the WKA National Lightweight Champion and WKA New York State Lightweight Champion, and hopes to continue adding more victories and titles to his record.
